Metrokane V-Gauge Our metrokane V-Gauge vacuum wine stopper worked perfectly. The instructions that come with the V-Gauge are missing one key instruction which metrokane should add to the V-Gauge package: To moisten the vacuum stopper plug with water before inserting it into the wine bottle to insure a vacuum seal. Since we bought our V-gauge through Amazon, we read the reviews. One of these mentioned that a V-gauge buyer discovered the wet stopper plug trick. A review of wine bottle stoppers by American Test Kitchen rated the metrokane V-Gauge unacceptable. They should retest the V-Gauge stopper with the plug moistened and rate it as the top stopper to be truly helpful to their readers, and tell them to wet the stopper plug with water to ensure a vacuum seal.
